Special Education
Choosing the right learning environment for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. At MINDS, your child receives not just education, but a personalised special education programme built around their needs, strengths and interests.
Our special education schools support students aged 7 to 18 with moderate to severe intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder with intellectual disability (ASD-ID). We provide a nurturing environment that builds confidence, essential life skills, and independence, while supporting your family every step of the way.

School Curriculum
At MINDS, your child’s learning journey is guided by the Ministry of Education (MOE) Special Education (SPED) Curriculum Framework. Our special education programme is designed to create meaningful opportunities for your child to grow in 3 key areas:
Living
Building daily self-care skills, making responsible choices, and learning to participate confidently in the community.
Learning
Strengthening literacy, numeracy, and the joy of lifelong learning while boosting your child’s confidence.
Working
Equipping your child with vocational skills that open future employment pathways and enable them to contribute to society.
The curriculum at each school is planned and tailored according to your child's needs, abilities, and interests:
Junior Level (7-12 years old)
Helping your child develop foundational literacy, numeracy, motor skills, social skills, and essential daily living habits.
Senior Level (13-18 years old)
Focusing on functional academics, social confidence, and vocational readiness, including authentic work attachment programmes for Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ).
Special Level (7-18 years old)
Designed for students with more complex behavioural needs, focusing on adaptive daily living skills, functional literacy, and behavioural support.
To provide additional support for students with greater learning needs, each school is supported by a multidisciplinary team of Allied Health Professionals. Psychologists, occupational and physiotherapists, and social workers work closely with teachers and you to nurture your child’s emotional, social, and physical well-being. Speech language therapists also use Key Word Sign Singapore (KWS-SG) and other assistive technologies to enhance communication and expression for non-verbal students in meaningful ways.
Learning Domains
Your child will benefit from a holistic special education programme encompassing 7 core learning domains, with integrated technology to enhance learning and engagement:

Daily Living Skills
Learning self-care, home living, leisure activities, and safe movement within the community.

Communication & Language
Developing confidence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, including prelinguistic communication for students who require it.

Numeracy
Applying numbers, measurement, geometry, and data analysis in real-life contexts.

Social Emotional Learning
Building resilience, self-awareness, social understanding, and decision-making.

Physical Education
Introducing games, fitness, outdoor learning, and aquatics.

Arts
Exploring visual arts and music to express creativity and emotions.

Vocational Education (Senior Level)
Learning practical skills in sectors such as retail, hospitality, and F&B.
We follow Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and adopt different instructional strategies and formats to address the unique needs of every student. We also leverage technology such as smartboards, tablets, and home-based learning tools to deepen our engagement with your child. From 2025, Senior Level students also benefit from MOE’s Personalised Digital Learning Programme (PDLP) to prepare them for digital literacy and independent learning.
Co-Curricular Activities (CCA)
Beyond academics, your child can develop talents and discover new passions through Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) like Sports, Scouts, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Green Club, and modular Special Programme CCAs. These activities are part of the holistic special education programme, providing your child with opportunities to build social confidence and discover their strengths.
Individualised Person-Centred Planning
At MINDS, every child benefits from our person-centred approach that tailors learning according to their goals and aspirations:
Individual Education Plan (IEP)
- For Junior and Lower Senior Levels (7–14 years old) to help your child succeed in school and community life.
Individual Transition Plan (ITP)
- For Upper Senior Levels (15–18 years old) to prepare your child and your family for post-school pathways and community living.
Teachers, parents, and Allied Health Professionals come together in goal-setting conferences at the start of each year. Progress is reviewed every 6 months to ensure that your child’s milestones are fully supported and progressively achieved.
