Caregiver Support

When you are caring for someone with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), you deserve as much support as you provide. MINDS offers practical programmes and services to help you connect, recharge and plan with confidence. From everyday respite to future planning, our caregiver support services are designed around your family’s goals and well-being.

Special Student Care Centre

Raising a child with IDD is a shared journey and MINDS is here to support you every step of the way. Our before- and after-school care complements your child’s learning while nurturing essential daily living skills in a safe, supportive environment. At our Special Student Care Centres, thematic, activity-based learning is tailored specifically for children with autism. Customised activity stations encourage practical and self-directed learning, supported by targeted interventions from our Allied Health Professionals.

We also offer enrichment and holiday programmes designed to enhance your child’s physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development. Some of the programmes include:

  • Practical Life & Social Skills
  • Sports & Games
  • Music & Movement
  • Key Word Sign
  • Cook & Bake
  • Art & Craft
  • Literacy & Numeracy
  • NLB kidsREAD

Future Care Planning

Plan a stable, undisrupted future for your family member with confidence and peace of mind. We provide comprehensive support through holistic assessments of caregiver needs, specialised information and referrals, life coaching, coordination of appropriate support services, and personalised care plans.

We also offer guidance on legal, financial, health, and accommodation planning, including assistance with deputyship applications.

Befriending and Respite Services

Caring for a loved one with IDD can be challenging without the right support. Our Befriending service fosters meaningful one-on-one connections at home or in the community to encourage participation. We also provide Customised Respite Care, including Empowering Bubbles activity kits and assistive tools to support learning at home. Additionally, the Supported Transition and Engagement Programme (STEP) ensures that SPED graduates remain engaged through community activities and programmes at MINDS Hub, while they await access to regular services. Meanwhile, caregivers are supported through workshops on self-care, wellness and future care planning.

MINDS Care Circle

Find a safe, welcoming community where you can share openly and feel heard. Our Care Circle network offers valuable resources and spaces for social, emotional and practical support, including:

  • A dedicated MINDS Care Circle Facebook page and WhatsApp community for caregivers
  • Peer support, talks, activities, workshops, and access to essential resources
  • Advocacy for more caregiver support services
  • Free subscription to a newsletter that keeps you informed and connected

MINDSibs

Being a sibling brings a mix of emotions: pride, curiosity and a desire to help. MINDSibs is designed to support your family, offering gentle guidance, meaningful connections and opportunities to grow together. Through age-appropriate activities and bonding sessions, siblings of persons with IDD can gain a deeper understanding of their experiences, connect with peers who “get it”, and strengthen relationships at home.

Our programmes are tailored for siblings aged 7 and above, with a focus on psychoeducation, social support and empowerment, so no sibling feels like they have to carry the weight alone.

Me Too! Club

When your loved one is meaningfully engaged, you get a little room to breathe. The Me Too! Club brings persons with IDD together for inclusive community activities, led by dedicated volunteers who ensure safe, structured and joyful socialisation. As your loved one builds friendships and discovers new interests, you can also enjoy worry-free respite care.

MINDS MYG

MINDS MYG is a volunteer-led weekend befriending programme for persons with IDD, featuring sing-alongs, gentle physical activities, enrichment sessions, and social events. If you are looking for a regular weekend programme to engage your loved one, MINDS MYG is a great place to start.
