MINDS Revamps Post-18 Services and Opens Regional Hub to Better Serve Persons with Intellectual Disability

15 November 2024

In a significant step towards supporting Persons with Intellectual
Disability (PWIDs) and their caregivers, MINDS reopened the MINDS IDEA Employment Development
Centre (IEDC) under a new name, MINDS Regional Hub (Hougang) together with a revamped post-18
service model. The opening ceremony was graced by Guest-of-Honour, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for
Social and Family Development, Second Minister for Health and Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs.

MINDS Film Festival 2024 Launches: Celebrating Individuality and Advocating for Inclusion

The opening night of the annual MINDS Film Festival (MFF) 2024 at
Shaw Lido Theatres on Friday, 13 September 2024, witnessed the attendance of close to 300 guests including caregivers, clients, MINDS partners, volunteers, and other distinguished guests. The event was graced by Guest of Honor, Ms Jane Ittogi, with an opening video message from MINDS Patron, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

One-stop touchpoint at MINDS Hub offers easy access to services for Persons with Intellectual Disability and their families

Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for Social and Family Development, Second Minister for Health and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, officiated the opening of the first MINDS Hub located at Queen’s Road today. MINDS plans to set up two more MINDS Hubs over the next two years to reach out to more PWIDs and their families living in the western and eastern regions of Singapore.

MINDS Bakers at SMEDC underwent an upgrade last year to enhance trainees’ training, further develop their skills in the field of baking and production through WSQ accreditation and increase the production output of the facility. The upgraded MINDS Bakers was opened by Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Social and Family Development and Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth this morning.

Greater community involvement is key to greater social inclusion in Singapore

MINDS signs MOU with Singapore Film Society (SFS) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) to deepen partnership and commitment to use film as a medium for public education to raise public’s awareness of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PWIDs) and their inclusion into community.

A Social Inclusion Index study commissioned by MINDS shows that more can be done to improve PWIDs inclusion in our community.

MINDS Launches Key Word Sign (Singapore)

On International Day for Persons with Disabilities, MINDS launched ‘Key Word Sign (Singapore)’, an augmentative and alternative communication approach which promotes the use of hand signs and gestures to support communication for persons with speech or communication difficulties. MINDS is the official training provider of Key Word Sign (Singapore).
