MINDS-Guillemard Gardens School was established in September 1992 at the premises of the former Guillemard East Primary School . Initially, with 48 pupils and 17 staff, it now has a muster of 120 pupils and 32 staff.
Dr Aline Wong, the then Minister of State for Health and Education, officiated the opening of the school on 7 October 1994. Ms Yip Moh Ching was the first Principal, then succeeded by Mrs Jenny Alexander in 1994, Ms M Jayasundari in 1999, Mdm Salha Soo in 2000 and Mr Anthony Tan in 2003. Presently, Mrs Jenny G. Alexander is leading the school into its 16th year (2008).
The school will strive for excellence. A key aim is to continually upgrade the quality of education for our pupils in order that their maximum potential is achieved. In the area of professional competency, it will support its staff in training and development so that they are equipped with skills and knowledge to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to special education.
Families and the community will continue to feature strongly in our outlook. There will be meaningful ways to engage family members and caregivers - such as parent-teacher meetings and workshops for parents. Community involvement programmes will not only enrich pupils' experiences but also provide public education to the volunteers.
We believe that with the combined effort of all stakeholders, we will continue to provide our pupils the best - for them to learn and grow "Towards Independence"!
We have set the theme of Social Graciousness and Integration as our focus for 2008. We believe that as we strive to nurture our pupils into independent adults, we need to inculcate in them the social graces and skills as well as to provide them with opportunities to interact and integrate with the community.
