History
Before MINDSville@Napiri was established in 2006, MINDS ran two homes for the intellectually disabled. The first was Tampines Home, set up in 1969 situated along Tampines Road, to meet residential needs of people with intellectual disability on the waiting list of Woodbridge Hospital's Mental Defective Wards. The home subsequently moved to Thomson Road and hence, the name Tampines Home (Thomson) was given. The residents at the Home usually have multiple disabilities and are unable to care for themselves independently. Many of them are destitute or abandoned by their families.
Tampines Home (West Coast) was later founded in 1994 as a hostel facility, specially designed to help higher functioning 'working' residents manage their own lives in a communal living environment. The Centre Head acts as a job placement officer, coach, mentor and 'parent' to approximately 42 residents.
