1968 saw our inception as Jurong Workshop. We were then situated along the Old Jurong Road and served around 50 clients. Our move to Commonwealth Employment Development Centre in Buona Vista came in 1988.
The period between 1998 and 2000 was a transition one, when we moved to a temporary holding place at the former Townsville Institute.
In Dec 2000, we moved to MINDS' first purpose-built Employment Development Centre at Margaret Drive , which was renamed SIA-MINDS Employment Development Centre.
His Excellency, Mr. S R Nathan, President of the Republic of Singapore , officially opened the new building .
The building with its purpose-built facilities is able to serve up 350 clients.
We are well equipped with a number of specialty rooms consisting of an Independent Living Room, a Computer Lab, a Gym Room, a Multi-Purpose hall and Simulated Activity Rooms. These facilities were designed to cater for the special training of our clients in developing their adaptive daily living, vocational and social skills.
We have our purpose and role in society, extended through the service to our clients:
