VOLUNTEER GROUP

MINDS MYG

MINDS MYG (formerly known as MINDS Youth Group) was established in 1972 and is a subsidiary volunteer wing of MINDS. Borne initially with the humble purpose of raising funds for MINDS, it has since grown to become one of the oldest and largest charitable projects in Singapore run purely by volunteers, focusing on providing meaningful weekly sessions for Persons with Intellectual Disability, ranging from children to adults from various backgrounds, ethnicity and ages. Till date, there are 11 projects running across Singapore.

Each project group is a community on its own. Volunteers from each project group will come together and organize different activities to suit the varying needs of their own trainees. They include but are not limited to Sing-A-Long, individual attachment time, tea break, games and arts and crafts.

In addition to these regular weekly activities, ad hoc outings are also organised to expose the beneficiaries to different types of environments and to engage them in a variety of activities such as hiking and farm visits. Special activities will also be organized during festive seasons such as Chinese New Year and Christmas. On a small scale basis, two or three project groups will also come together to organise combined events to bond volunteers and beneficiaries together and at the same time, learn from each other.

On top of these, all our project groups will come together annually to attend MINDS MYG major events, such as our Family Day, Sports Day and an Annual 2-Day, 1 Night Camp, affectionately known as the “ACID Camp”. Through these camps, activities and collaborations with private and public institutions, our beneficiaries are exposed to various experiences, encouraged to challenge their limits and are invited to find joy and excitement beyond the ordinary.

Through the collective effort and goodwill of our volunteers, MINDS MYG strives to play a meaningful role in the lives of the beneficiaries that we serve. In the course of weekly sessions, we provide care, mentorship and companionship to our beneficiaries, and much needed respite for their caregivers. We welcome you to join us!
