MINDS FOOD / BAKERS

MINDS Food Logo

MINDS Food was started in 2004 by a group of parent volunteers from the MINDS Caregivers Support Group, who wanted to explore the possibility of training our clients to pick up basic kitchen skills. From a humble setup of just a handful of parents and clients, MINDS Food has grown into a well-equipped F&B social enterprise that serves nutritious, great tasting lunch to our EDC clients and staff.  The MINDS Food unit at SIA-MINDS EDC also runs a small catering service that provides packed lunchboxes to other charities in the vicinity.

On the training aspect, our clients are taught to perform basic food preparation, area cleaning and packing based on modified techniques designed by our training officers. Till date we have close to 50 clients across the 3 EDCs working in MINDS Food.

“BAKED WITH LOVE, BAKED BY MINDS”
MINDS BAKERS COOKIES, TARTS, BISCUITS AND MUFFINS

In 2012, we extended our product offering to sell delicious, lovingly handmade baked treats under the brand name of MINDS Bakers. Our cookies, tarts, biscuits and muffins are based on healthier recipes using less sugar and sans-preservatives. MINDS Bakers offers a wide variety of packaging and customised solutions for weddings, birthday parties and corporate events. Take a look at our
catalogue.

For enquiries related on sales, customisation and invitation to bazaars/sales events, please send an email to mindsbakers@minds.org.sg.

A quick note on bazaar and sales events: Please note that we require a minimum pre-event confirmed sales of $500 and $1,000 (during peak seasons between October – February) worth of goods respectively for the setup of our booths. These goods can be a combined purchase of MINDS Craft and MINDS Bakers items. Please email us at se@minds.org.sg for more information.

Some fun facts on MINDS Bakers – Did you know?

MINDS Bakers began as a therapy programme to cultivate positive work behaviour in our clients. We started with a small team of 5 clients and 1 training officer, flipped to the easiest recipe from a cook book and baked our first batch of cookies. Initially, the clients could only be involved in scooping the dough onto the trays as most of them had challenges reading the weighing scale and recognizing ingredients. We also stayed away from complicated shapes and designs as cookie cutting required levelling skills that our clients could not handle then. Over time however, we managed to train them in the various aspects and today, we have more than 10 different types of cookies and other baked treats to boast of!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Chef Sam from The Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore who spent a good 3 months volunteering at MINDS and teaching us some of these new recipes. We would also like to thank all our customers who believed in us and spreading the message of our clients’ good work. We are also proud to share that the wedding cookies you receive at the Peony Jade Restaurant Group are baked by MINDS Bakers!
